Olivia Michael Candle Co. is a luxury candle and wax scent brand, established in 2021. Inspired by nature, Olivia Michael makes hand-poured vegan candles from their small studio in Sussex. I’m personally obsessed with their scents. I consider Velvet Grace to be the signature scent of Pretty Content HQ – it’s floral but warm with praline and I wish I could bathe in it!

Era of influence
The branding is inspired by a classic romantic style that’s completely timeless, yet perfect for a modern business.
Scent is so closely associated with memory, and is such a personal preference. The brand needed to reflect this and the hand-made ethos of the Olivia Michael Candle Co brand.
The hand-drawn floral elements are inspired by botanical sketches and the typography is an elegant and timeless serif.
Process and concepts
Olivia Michael Candle Co. founder Rosalind came to me for an elegant look and feel for her new business. Olivia Michael candles are luxurious and high quality, and that needed to be reflected in the branding.
Rosalind loved the hand-drawn floral elements that I created for the Wall Flowers Seasonal Blooms brand suite, so I drew elegant floral shapes inspired by peonies (one of my personal favourite flowers, actually!).
What started off as a pretty pastel aesthetic gradually morphed into a darker, more sophisticated palette, with black labels and gold foiling.
Throughout the process, I’ve also been gifted with several candles and it’s been so much fun to see how they’ve been developed and experience them first-hand. I am such a candle lover, and these are some of my all-time favourites in terms of scent and burn quality!
